Data Transfer & Recovery

Data Transfer

Getting a new computer is exciting — until you realize you need to move all your stuff over. We make that part easy! We can copy your files, photos, music, documents, and more from your old machine to your new one. In many cases we can even pull data off a computer that won’t boot anymore.

On Macs, we can use Migration Assistant to move your settings and applications over cleanly (unfortunately Windows doesn’t have an equivalent tool). We can usually move your browser profiles too, so your bookmarks and saved passwords follow you to the new machine.

Note: Only files and data can be moved between Windows PCs (or Mac-to-Windows and vice versa). Programs need to be reinstalled and settings configured fresh on any new device — but we’ll make sure your files get there safely.

We’re also happy to help you set up a solid backup plan so you don’t have to worry about losing anything in the future. Backup drives are affordable and we can point you in the right direction.

Data Recovery

Drive not mounting? Computer won’t boot? External hard drive, flash drive, or SSD acting up? Bring it by — we’d love to take a look.

Sometimes what looks like a dead drive is just a logical error that can be corrected with the right tools. We run in-depth recovery scans that can often pull back files from drives that seem completely gone. Flash drives with broken USB connectors can often be recovered from too.

For more serious mechanical or electrical damage, we know and trust several reputable professional data recovery labs, and we’ll be honest with you about what we can handle in-house vs. what needs specialized equipment.

Data Transfer — Moving to a New Computer

Getting a new computer is exciting until you realize you need to move everything over. We handle the full migration: your documents, photos, music, browser bookmarks, email settings, and even many of your installed programs where possible. We’ll make sure your new machine is set up the way you want it before you leave.

Data Recovery — Getting Back What Was Lost

Accidentally deleted an important file? Hard drive making clicking sounds? Computer died and you need your data off it? We can often recover files that seem gone for good. We work with failing drives, accidentally formatted drives, and corrupted partitions. We’ll give you an honest assessment of what’s recoverable before you commit to the service.

What We Can (and Can’t) Recover

Data recovery success depends on what happened to the drive. Software corruption, accidental deletion, and failed partitions are often very recoverable. Physically damaged drives (flood, fire, severe impact) can sometimes be recovered but may require more advanced techniques. We’ll tell you exactly what we’re dealing with and what your options are — no surprises.

The Best Data Recovery Plan Is a Backup Plan

We always recommend having a regular backup in place so you’re never in this situation again. Ask us about simple, set-it-and-forget-it backup solutions when you come in.
