The Duke Computer Repair Center and the Duke Office of Information Technology (OIT) can be a great resource for you, if you've purchased your computer from the OIT and if it is still under warranty. They're an authorized repair facility for Apple, Lenovo, and Dell, which means that they can fix it for free, if you bought it from them. While they have access to manufacturer supplied parts, those parts tend to be very expensive and often are only sold in complete assemblies. This forces you to pay for computer parts that you don't need.
If you didn't purchase your computer from them, and particularly if your computer is out of warranty, then The Computer Cellar may be a great option. We work on laptop and notebook computers from many brands and manufacturers, including the popular netbooks or minis. Additionally, we have access to some incredibly priced accessories and peripherals through our sister company, Triangle Laptops. We've seen the price list on the Duke Computer Repair Center website and are relieved to know that we can provide many of the exact same parts in new, refurbished or used condition for considerably less. There is no way that a replacement battery should ever cost $109! An AC adapter is so much more affordable at less than $30.
